Rosewood and Spalted Beech Jewelry Box

I was fortunate to find a board of Spalted Beech with great color and figure. In this box the lid is made from that board and is set off by a rich surround of Bolivian Rosewood. The lid is attached and hinged with hidden brass pins. The interior is lined with faux suede.

Curly Maple and Wenge Jewelry Box

This box is a contrast is bot color and texture. The white, curly maple, with its smooth surface is accented by almost black, coarse textured wenge for a very striking visual treat. The box has two sliding trays and is lined with blue faux suede. The hinges are solid milled brass with built-in stops.

I was fortunate to receive awards at the first two shows this season. First was an award of excellence at the Monument Square Art Fair in Racine, Wisconsin. Two weeks later, it was “Best in Catagory – Fine Craft” at the Stone Arch Festival of the Arts in Minneapolis. Guess i’ll be back!

The composite lid is striking, (but a pain to do). I do like the contrast between the two woods. Nothing shy here. this is a good sized box that can handle a decent collection. It is currently available at my shop on etsy at www.wibn.esty.com.

This box was fun. Working with some Birdseye Maple that also had some curl in the figure. The contrast of the white of the Maple with the deep purple accents is very striking. Look for this box and others at www.wibn.etsy.com.

Maple Armoire

This comtemporary piece is made of Hard Maple with Cherry accents. There are 7 shallow drawers and 2 larger ones. Both sides swing out and allow for hanging storage on both exposed surfaces. The top section can be separated from the stand for ease of moving and transport. All drawers, some with dividers, are lined with a microsuede like material. The entire piece is finished in satin lacquer.

Mahogany and Spalted Maple Keepsake Box

This keepsake box is made of genuine Mahogany with a lid of Spalted Maple. (Spalting occurs as the tree dies and is attacked by fungi.) Kiln drying stops the process, leaving each piece unique in its patterns. The box has tapered sides which expose a blind Maple spline with a bow-tie effect.

It’s both fun and a challenge to come up with a design that gets the most out of the woods used, and, satisfies a unique customer requirement. In this case I think both were achieved, thanks in large part to the customers ideas and wood selections. Two trays and a divided lower level provide over 100 individual storage spaces. The woods are Birdseye Maple and Bloodwood.

Dresser-Top, Cherry Jewelry Chest

This all Cherry armoire easily fits on most dresser tops and can accommodate a sizable collection of jewelry. There are 4 drawers with interior dimensions of 8 1/2″ x 7 ” by 1 3/8″ deep, and 2 drawers with 2 3/4′ depth. The shallower drawers come with removable divider grids, The deeper drawers are open. Two side wings open to provide storage for hanging necklaces. Drawer and wing knobs are brass with Cherry wood inserts. The drawer bottoms are lined with faux suede. The entire piece is finished in satin lacquer. Overall outside dimensions are 14″ wide, 11″ deep, and 17″ high.
